Recommendation to Approve Property Purchase
After significant discussion from the Board and opportunity for public comment, the Board voted four to three to approve the purchase of the property housing the District administrative offices located at 7387 S. Campus View Dr. in West Jordan.

  • Patron Comments
  • Kayleen Whitlock voiced her frustrations about the short timeframe for considering the purchase of the District Office.  She then expressed her support of the purchase after listening to the discussion.
  • Andrea Moore asked further questions of the Board about the purchase and feels that now is not the right time to put executive facilities ahead of educational facilities.
  • Jolynne Alger expressed her concern about public perception by purchasing the building now.  She encouraged the Board to delay the purchase. She also asked the Board to consider the high cost of construction for schools and look at ways to lower those costs.
  • Bruce Munsen expressed his opposition to the purchase.  He also asked the Board to consider reconfiguring space or utilizing desk sharing to accommodate all District staff at the Auxiliary Services Building on Redwood Road.
  • Board Comments
  • Carmen Freeman expressed his opposition to the purchase of the administrative offices and voiced his concern about the perception and associated risk to a future bond.
  • Susan Pulsipher also expressed her opposition to the purchase of the administrative offices. She feels the current need is greater for schools than it is for administrative buildings.
  • Richard Osborn expressed his concern about postponing the purchase, as costs for the facility could increase.
  • Leah Voorhies is in favor of the purchase as a means of saving patron tax dollars by not paying rent, taxes on the property, and potentially losing the current price and offer.
  • Rick Bojak added to previous comments by explaining that because the District can purchase this building, still have sufficient funds to build an elementary school and stop paying rent and taxes, he is in favor of the proposal.
  • Peggy Jo Kennett expressed her support of the purchase and reiterated several key points from the discussion.  She feels this purchase shows fiscal responsibility as it will benefit patrons long term.
  • Corbin White does not feel the purchase is fiscally responsible.  He feels all monies should be directed to children first and administration second.
  • Additional Patron Comments
  • Kris Hansen, a parent, thanked the Board for their openness that has taken place in recent months. She expressed her concerns about the frequency of changes in special needs staffing, causing a decrease in student and staff morale.
