Accelerated Learning Program for Students (ALPS)
Background
Accelerated Learning Program for Students (ALPS) is an accelerated
magnet program for gifted and talented students. Seven elementary
schools, Alta View, Peruvian Park, Jordan Ridge, Ridgecrest, Riverton, Sunrise and Westland
(1-6) and one middle school, Midvale Middle (7-9) are available
in a proximity feeder system for all students who voluntarily
apply and meet the testing criteria. All ALPS programs
are funded by Jordan District regular school funds (FTE)
and all classes are regular class size.
Transportation and Parental Involvement
Parents must provide transportation for students who live too
far away from the ALPS school to walk. Since ALPS participation
is voluntary, District-funded bus service is not provided
for the elementary schools. Parents are also expected to
spend time at the school each week helping with the ALPS
program. Parents may be asked to tutor, listen to reading
groups, help with clerical tasks, accompany field trips,
provide enrichment lessons, or help in other ways.
For more information on the ALPS program, please call (801) 567-8381.
