Hazardous Transportation Routes
The State of Utah funds school bus transportation for students residing further than 1.5 miles from their elementary school or two miles from their secondary school. In addition, the Jordan Board of Education elects to allocate about $1 million each year from educational funds to provide busing for students on routes inside those limits but deemed hazardous for walking. Routes are evaluated and assigned a hazard ranking. Of 235 routes considered for the 2004-05 school year, 167 were funded. Routes are reevaluated as conditions change and new schools are built.
