Introduction

At Jordan School District, we know the future is built one child at a time. Schools play a pivotal role in shaping that future. Our vision is to help every student be successful. In pursuit of this vision, Jordan School District focuses on the educational needs of each student, provides diverse programs and services, and creates a climate where everyone can learn. We are proud of our talented and caring teachers and our safe, inviting and nurturing schools.

Teacher and Student
“Our vision is to help every student be successful. In pursuit of this vision, the Jordan School District focuses on the educational needs of each student, provides diverse programs and services, and creates a climate where everyone can learn.”

We take great pride in presenting this report to you. It presents a brief overview of the District’s significant accomplishments during the past school year and provides statistical information required by Utah legislative guidelines (Utah Code Sections 53A-3-601 to 603).

Jordan District’s track record – locally, statewide and nationally – is impressive. In essence, we raise the bar each year and consistently surpass it. For example, this past school year, graduating seniors were awarded more than $16.6 million in academic and athletic scholarships. Students throughout the District scored at or above the state and national averages on the Stanford Achievement Test, the American College Test, and Advanced Placement courses. The District’s high school dropout rate declined for the sixth straight year. District buses traveled nearly 3 million miles transporting students to/from school and activities. And, the District’s Nutrition Services staff served up an incredible 7.6 million meals.

We are committed to providing a superior education experience for the children of our community. We believe we have made great strides and remain accountable to you to do even more. With your continued support, we are confident we will succeed.

Building the Future
In October 2002, the Jordan Board of Education announced it would hold a Special Bond and Voted Leeway Election on Feb. 4, 2003. The purpose of the bond and voted leeway are to accommodate an estimated 15,000 new students expected by 2010. The proposed $281 million bond will build 22 new schools and provide for building improvements and land purchases with no increase in the property tax rate. The voted leeway will provide funding to operate these schools at a maximum property tax increase of $33 per $100,000 in home value. The increase will be phased in over a 10-year period.
