  • Open Enrollment Ends Soon
          The open enrollment period for making changes to insurance and other benefit plans is July 31. Employees may make the following changes during the open enrollment period:
  • Enroll in a new insurance plan
  • Change or cancel an existing insurance plan
  • Add or cancel members from an existing plan
  • Complete a new Flexible Spending Election form

Attendance Incentive
      Jordan District pays an attendance incentive to full-time employees who have two or fewer sick leave or personal leave absences (excluding approved FMLA days) during a school year. For 2007-08, incentive pay was included in the July 25 paycheck. Attendance incentive amounts are calculated based on the number of eligible full-time equivalent employees and number of absences. The 2007-08 payout amounts per employee were as follows:

Notice on Personal Leave
      Employees wishing to take personal leave before or after a holiday are directed to review the “Personal Leave Taken Before or After a Holiday” memo dated July 22, 2008. The memo was forwarded to each school and department with instructions for principals and/or department directors to copy and distribute to all full-time employees. The memo may also be viewed at www.jordandistrict.org/pdf/personal_leave.pdf.

Change in Mileage Reimbursement
      The rate at which Jordan District reimburses employees for business use of personal vehicles increased to 58.5¢ per mile as of July 1, 2008. This rate matches the federal mileage reimbursement rate.

Administrator Named Officer
      Tamra Baker, principal at Draper Elementary, was installed as a top officer of the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals at the association’s annual summer conference. She will serve as president for the 2010-11 school year. The purposes of UAESP are to provide opportunities for professional growth of administrators, educators, students and parents; stimulate public interest in support of education; and solicit the cooperation of other local, state, and national organizations to benefit of Utah’s students.

Health and PE Award
      Bruce Brinkman, PE specialist at Welby Elementary, received the 2008 Health and Physical Education Award from the Utah State Office of Education. Brinkman has been with Jordan District since 1986.

Accounting Recognition
      Ed Mondragon, business and accounting teacher at Hillcrest High, received a Rising Star Award from the Utah Certified Public Accountant Education Foundation. The award is given to recognize educators who focus on the importance of accounting education and show clear commitment to accounting principles. The award was presented during the Utah State Office of Education’s business education summer conference.

‘Bright Ideas’ a Success
      The Bright Ideas July summer session featured presenters from the University of Utah College of Engineering helping students build inventions. Catapults, rockets and bridges were the structures of the day. The session was part of “Camp Invention” days held at Quail Hollow Elementary for two weeks. Other activities included visits from an illustrator, drama instructors and Mad Science. The purpose of the Bright Ideas program is to provide educational opportunities and experiences not usually found in the home or school for bright, accelerated and highly motivated youth.

Elementary Music Teachers Needed
      Jordan District is in need of before- or after-school elementary band or orchestra teachers at several elementary schools. Persons applying for these positions must be at least 21 years old, have experience in teaching band or orchestra, and have at least two years of college. Work hours will not exceed 17 per week. Kindergarten Math Books Available
     Midas Creek Elementary has an extra 108 Scott-Foresman Math Practice books for kindergarten. If you can use these books, contact Carolyn Bona, carolyn.bona@jordan.k12.ut.us.
