Administrative Appointment
     The Board of Education appointed Shad DeMill, currently a teacher at Midvale Elementary School, as intern assistant principal at Midas Creek and Mountain Shadows Elementary Schools.  He replaces Todd Theobald who was recently appointed principal at Willow Canyon Elementary School.

  • Ellen Wallace reported on her attendance at Eastmont Middle School’s “Seussical Junior” production, the student art show at South Towne Center in Sandy, and the National School Boards Association Conference (NSBA) in Orlando, Fla.  She also encouraged the public to donate used musical instruments to students through the Jordan Education Foundation.
  • Randy Brinkerhoff expressed appreciation to schools that send him their newsletters and minutes from School Community Council meetings.  He also reported on his attendance at South Hills Middle School’s “Princess” production, the Utah School Boards Association spring regional meeting, and the NSBA conference. 
  • Kim Horiuchi reported on her attendance at the state history fair, and commended the five District history teachers accepted to the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History summer seminars.  She also expressed appreciation for being able to attend the NSBA conference.  She is impressed with the 80,000 school board members across the country who are committed to bettering public education.
  • Peggy Jo Kennett reported on her attendance at the USBA board of directors meeting in St. George, and the NSBA conference.  She said she is grateful for the opportunity for professional development as a school board member.
  • J. Dale Christensen reminded the public about the dedication of Midas Creek Elementary School that will occur April 15 at 6 p.m.

Jordan Resource Center
     Principal Julie Buckingham outlined the programs offered through the Jordan Resource Center.  The center houses six special education teams that serve students Districtwide: adaptive physical education; motor development; hearing impaired; visually impaired; Utah Assistive, Alternative, Augmentative, Communication; and middle school/high school.  The middle/high school is a self-contained special education school for students with emotional and behavioral disorders.

Closed, Study Sessions
     The Board met in closed session to discuss personnel and property.  During study session the Board discussed Real Soccer proposals, study session items, and the recent National School Boards Association Conference.
