Bluffdale Elementary is located in the southwest area of Jordan School District. Situated in the center of what was once the farming community of Bluffdale, this modern school has strong ties to the past. Some Bluffdale students have community roots dating back to pioneer days, but a majority live in new, rapidly developing residential areas. Bluffdale enjoys healthy school/community cooperation. The school serves as the major public meeting place for area residents.
Bluffdale teachers are dedicated to
meeting the needs of students. Basic skills are emphasized
and many opportunities are provided for students to
develop culturally, socially and emotionally.
- Bluffdale
Elementary serves 878 students in kindergarten to sixth
grade.
- The school was built in 1995 and features four-class
learning centers for each grade. A central media center
gives the school an open pleasant feeling.
- Bluffdale operates on a year-round schedule.
Students are divided into four attendance tracks. Each
track is generally in school for 45 days followed by
15 days of vacation. The school takes a common vacation
during the month of July. In most cases, parents may
select their child's attendance track.
- Bluffdale students begin school at 8:55 a.m.
and end at 3:50 p.m. except on Friday when school closes at 1:50 p.m. to allow teachers time for planning
or making preparations for track changes.
- The teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 22.30 in first
grade, 1 to 22.30 in second grade, 1 to 23.30 in third
grade, and 1 to 26.30 in grades four, five and six.
The actual class sizes vary.
- The curriculum is in keeping with state and District
guidelines and meets all of the requirements for elementary
students. The solid subjects of reading, English and
math are taught during morning hours.
- Bluffdale teachers are all state certificated
and fully-qualified professional educators.
- All staff members are formally evaluated on a
regular basis to assure continuing professional development.
- Resource education is available for students
with special needs.
- Bluffdale students are expected to maintain dress,
attendance and discipline standards.
- An excellent hot lunch program is available to
students at a price of $1.50 per meal. Students are
asked to purchase school lunches by the week or by the
month.
- Bus service is provided for students who live
1-1/2 miles or more from school. A majority of the Bluffdale
students qualify for bus service.
- Bluffdale Elementary relies heavily on an active
PTA which organizes the parent volunteer program. Each
week many hours of service are provided by interested,
caring volunteers.
- A School Community Council meets regularly to
discuss important school issues and give the principal
input from the community's point of view.
- Visitors are always welcome at Bluffdale Elementary
and asked to check with the office before proceeding
through the school.
- Bluffdale teachers stay informed on the latest
teaching methods and techniques by regularly participating
in in-service training.
- Our Centennial Grove recognizes a past community
leader each year by planting a tree and erecting a plaque
on their behalf.
- Our students are involved in an "Accelerated Reader" program which encourages independent reading and tests reading comprehension.
Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT)
The Core Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) are administered at the end of each school year to help assess how well students have mastered the standards and objectives set forth in the State of Utah Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science core curricula. Student achievement is reported as the percent of students reaching “proficient” by earning a Level 3 or Level 4 performance on the Core CRT.

IOWA Tests
The IOWA Test of Basic Skills provides a comparison of achievement to students across the United States in reading, language arts, math, science and social studies. The IOWA test is given each fall to students in grades 3, 5, and 8. The Jordan School District School also administers the IOWA to students in grade 6. Results are reported as the average percentile rank. The national average is the 50th percentile in each area.
