Draper Elementary is located in Draper City in the southeast corner of Salt Lake Valley. Teachers assess the needs and capabilities of each student and then provide appropriate, challenging curriculum and learning experiences. Draper provides a strong Balanced Literacy curriculum where all students find reading success. We employ the Addison-Wesley Scott Foresman Math curriculum in conjunction with math Investigations to give our student hands on, real world math experience. In addition to a strong foundation in basic skills, Draper teachers strive to introduce all students to a wide variety of topics through studies of nature, history, and the arts. All Draper teachers are involved in weekly curriculum planning and reflection to ensure that all State Core objectives are being taught using best teaching practices. Technology instruction is also an important element of learning at Draper elementary. Students have access to a wide variety of current technology as well as skilled teachers who integrate technology into all subject areas.

Students at Draper are involved in many extra curricular activities that support their individual skills and talents. Our leadership program, the Dragon Council, supports recycling projects, monitors energy use, and performs service projects for the community. Our school choir is outstanding. Students begin rehearsing in the early fall for performances at Red Ribbon Week, Christmas, and Spring concerts and other community events. In addition, the band program supports the talents of beginning and intermediate musicians. Our students consistently win district and regional awards for participation in programs such as Creative Pursuits, Reflections, and Science Fairs. We have an outstanding and talented student body.

Draper parents are encouraged to be involved in school, and teachers communicate regularly with parents through home contacts and parent-teacher conference. Our Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) is involved in providing high quality activities for our students. Each year students are treated to educational assemblies, book fairs, Literacy, Math or Geography Festivals, and a 5K run and carnival to round out the year. Every classroom has an active room parent that coordinates communication and volunteers for each teacher. In addition, our School Community Council, comprised of parents and teachers, reviews school issues and makes recommendations. Together we create a Comprehensive School Improvement Plan that focuses on Literacy, Mathematics, School Climate and Communication.

• Draper Elementary serves 642 students on a tradidional schedule.
  
• Draper Elementary moved to a new location in 1976 when a new flexible space school was built and the historic school building was sold to Draper City for municipal offices. The current school features remodeled classrooms and media center and a new computer lab.
  
• The school day begins at 8:20 a.m. and ends at 2:55 p.m., except on Fridays when school is dismissed at 1:15 p.m. to allow teachers time for planning.
• The Draper staff is well qualified. Teachers hail from many different states with a variety of backgrounds and specialty training. Many have master degrees and additional endorsements.
  
• Teachers work in teams in order to give students access to the best talents of each teacher.
  
• The curriculum follows state and District guidelines and meets or exceeds all elementary requirements.
  
• Draper students are expectd to follow a Code of Conduct for Responsible Citizens which spells out expectations for behavior.
  
• Resource teachers give special help to students who are struggling in math or reading. An intervention program targets all at risk students.
  
• A guidance specialist is available to provide group or individual counseling. Speech therapy is also provided for students as necessary.
  
• Well-balanced meals are provided daily through the school's hot lunch program at a price of $1.50 per lunch. Reduced rate or free lunches are available to students in need.
  
• About 70 percent of the Draper students ride the bus each day.
  
• Our school has a partnership with Brigham Young University to help train prospective teachers. In turn, BYU regularly provides in-service training for Draper teachers. We specialize in training early childhood educators.
  
• Draper Elementary is striving to meet the needs of accelerated students. Problem solving and higher level thinking skills are introduced in every classroom.
  
• Art, Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese and ASL classes are offered after school through Community Schools.
