Eastlake Elementary is located near the Oquirrh Mountains in the innovative Eastlake Village at Daybreak. The school is on a knoll overlooking the Salt Lake Valley and is east of a magnificent man-make lake complete with canoeing, fishing, and walking paths. The school is a unique two-story design with large windows in every classroom, collaboration kivas, beautiful media center, spacious gym with stage area, and computer lab with the latest technology. The school serves students from kindergarten to sixth grade and will open its doors on August 25, 2008. To help assure each child’s success, Eastlake Elementary has three areas of focus: Literacy and Numeracy, Arts Integration, and Positive School Atmosphere. Eastlake parents are encouraged to be involved in school because “Together We Are More”.
- General Information
- Eastlake Elementary serves 670 students on a modified, three-track, year-round schedule (A, B, D tracks). The school begins at 8:30 a.m. and is dismissed at 3:25 p.m. On Fridays, school is dismissed at 1:25 p.m. to allow teachers time for planning and making track changes.
- Each classroom is equipped with audio enhancement and digital projection systems.
- A nutritious hot lunch is prepared and served daily. The cost of school lunch for students is $1.50.
- Bus service is provided for students who live 1-1/2 miles or more from the school.
- School Highlights
- The dynamic faculty is divided into teams who participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Teachers collaborate to ensure that all students are learning and to give students access to the best talents of each teacher.
- The curriculum meets or exceeds all district and state requirements. Teachers use the Balanced Literacy framework to teach reading and writing. Math is taught using a combination of Investigations (hands-on and problem solving approach) and the Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley curriculum.
- Students in grades 3-6 have planners that are used for communication about homework and other school activities. Parents sign the planners each evening, and teachers initial the planner each morning.
- Our literacy specialist and reading assistants provide students with extra help in reading and comprehension. They also provide support for teachers to improve reading instruction.
- Character education lessons are presented every month on the character trait of the month.
- Students have access to the latest technology including computers, mobile writing labs (laptops), and smart boards. Students work with software in language arts, math, and other curriculum areas.
- Resource teachers give special help to students in math or reading. A Literacy Facilitator and reading assistants provide interventions to strengthen reading skills for students.
- A guidance specialist is available to provide group or individual guidance support. Speech therapy is also provided for students as necessary.
- Eastlake students have opportunities to explore the arts (choir, orchestra, Meet the Masters) and physical fitness (Gold Medal School and Presidential Physical Fitness).
- Eastlake students are expected to follow a Code of Conduct for responsible citizens, which spells out expectations for behavior.
- The school adheres to Jordan District dress, attendance, and discipline standards.
- The Eastlake Student Council gives students leadership opportunities as they meet to build school pride and serve others.
- An active PTA and School Community Council assist with school activities and regularly give input on important school issues.
- Students are expected to behave in a responsible manner in class, on the playground, while participating in activities and going to and from school.
- Eastlake Elementary is using Utah State Trust Land funds to improve reading skills.
School visitors and volunteers are welcomed and encouraged at Eastlake. Volunteers support the educational process through their work within the classroom. Every family that attends Eastlake is encouraged to support their children by working as a team with the classroom teachers as they strive to provide excellent educational opportunities for all children.
