About Edgemont Elementary
Edgemont Elementary, located in a residential area of Sandy City, serves students from a basically middle-class community. The Edgemont faculty is working to provide students with a solid foundation in basic skills and to offer a variety of experiences and activities to help students develop into strong, worthwhile, contributing citizens.
  • LogoEdgemont Elementary serves 620 students from kindergarten to sixth grade.
  • The school, built in 1958, features large self-contained classrooms. Edgemont was remolded in 2003.
  • Edgemont is on a traditional nine-month calendar with 180 days of school each year. School begins at 8:40 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m. except on Fridays when school closes at 1:40 p.m. to allow teachers time for planning meetings.
  • The teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 22.3 in first grade, 1 to 23.10 in second grade, 1 to 24.60 in third grade and 1 to 26.70 in grades four, five and six. The actual class sizes vary.
  • Edgemont's faculty is professional, hard working and fun seeking. All teachers have state certification.
  • The curriculum meets all District and state requirements. Reading is taught with Houghton Mifflin texts through a Balanced Literacy approach. Math instruction is varied with a strong emphasis on problem solving.
  • Teacher evaluation is an on-going process conducted by the principal.
  • A speech clinician, educational psychologist, and resource team are available to help students who qualify for special services.
  • Computer education is included in the curriculum for students in all grades. Edgemont received an updated computer lab in 2002.
  • Edgemont's dress code stresses common sense, cleanliness, and modesty. Students are expected to be punctual and attend school regularly.
  • Edgemont students live within walking distance of the school with some students bused to Edgemont from the Cranberry Hill Subdivision.
  • School lunch is $1.50 for students and $2.50 for adults. A nutritious, well-planned lunch is served every day.
  • A School Community Council, with representatives from each neighborhood, meets every four times each year to discuss school concerns and goals.
  • Parent volunteers are an integral part of Edgemont's school program. Volunteerism is encouraged and appreciated.
  • School visitors are welcome, and asked to check in at the office upon arrival.
  • Edgemont Elementary has been a first place winner in the Sandy Pride contest because of its contributions to the community and neat, well-kept appearance.
  • Edgemont is a fully accredited school.
  • Edgemont is a BEST School (Behavioral and Educational Strategies for Teachers).
  • Our teachers regularly stay after school to provide various special activities for students.
Student Achievement

Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT)
The Core Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) are administered at the end of each school year to help assess how well students have mastered the standards and objectives set forth in the State of Utah Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science core curricula.   Student achievement is reported as the percent of students reaching “proficient” by earning a Level 3 or Level 4 performance on the Core CRT.
