ABOUT ELK MEADOWS ELEMENTARY

Elk Meadows Elementary was built in 1998. It located in the southwest corner of the District's boundaries, the school serves the Garden Grove, Vista Farms, Elk Meadows, Whispering Sands, Ashford Acres, Cameron Park, Edenview and Hearthstone subdivisions. Elk Meadows operates on a year-round schedule and, considering the area's growth potential, will probably continue to grow for many years.

The staff at Elk Meadows is working to create a safe, warm learning climate where every student can master the basic skills and develop a sense of self-worth through a variety of learning experiences. School spirit is very high, and teachers and parents are working in partnership to help students gain academic competence, develop social skills, and become responsible citizens.

  • LogoElk Meadows Elementary serves 908 students in grades K-6.
  • The school is on a modified year-round school calendar. Students are divided into four attendance groups or tracks. Typically, each track is in school for 45 days and then has a 15 day vacation. During July, the school closes to allow all students a common vacation.
  • The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. except on Fridays when school is dismissed at 1:25 p.m. to provide time for teachers to plan curriculum and receive training.
  • The teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 22.00 in first grade, 1 to 22.30 in second grade, 1 to 23.80 in third grade, and 1 to 25.90 in grades four, five and six; however, individual class sizes vary.

We are providing laptop computers to the children and teachers who use the lab The lab will be a great support for our curriculum and will provide our children with excellent opportunities for project-based activities in technology.
  • The school is in the second year with the "I Can Read Program" which is a skill-based reading program that will focus on kindergarten through sixth grade children who are having difficulties learning how to read. Parents will be asked to volunteer in this endeavor to help teachers administer the program.
  • Elk Meadows will be a training site again this year for student teachers from the University of Phoenix who are enrolling in the Masters of Arts Education Program. We welcome these future teachers and look forward to working with them.
  • The school's curriculum meets or exceeds all state and District standards. The classwork in each grade follows the State and District Core Curriculum Guidelines. We are also conducting a vigorous character education program in the school. Our PTA is supporting this effort to develop high moral values in our students.
  • Basic subjects are taught in self-contained classrooms. Teachers work in teams to provide instruction in basic subjects, arts, physical education and music.
  • Elk Meadows follows the District dress standard which requires clean, neat, modest clothing. Students are expected to learn self-discipline. If serious problems arise, the student, teacher, parents, counselor, and principal work as a team to find the best solution for the student.
