The staff at Hayden Peak is working to create a safe, and caring
learning climate where every student can master the basic skills and
develop a sense of self-worth through a variety of learning
experiences. School spirit is high, and teachers and parents are
working in partnership to help students gain academic competence,
develop social skills, and become responsible citizens.
- Hayden Peak Elementary serves approximately 1250 students in grades K-6
- Students are divided into four attendance groups or tracks. Typically, each track is in school for 45 days and then has a 15 day vacation. During July, the school closes to allow all students a common vacation.
- The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. except on Fridays when school is dismissed at 1:25 p.m. to provide time for teachers to plan curriculum and receive training.
- The teacher/pupil ratio is approximately 1 to 22.65 in first grade, 1 to 22.95 in second grade, 1 to 24.50 in third grade, and 1 to 26.70 in grades four, five and six; however, individual class sizes vary.
- The faculty is comprised of experienced teachers and many have advanced degrees in early childhood and elementary education.
- The school's curriculum meets or exceeds all state and District standards. The classwork in each grade follows the State and District Core Curriculum Guidelines.
- Basic subjects are taught in self-contained classrooms. Teachers work in teams to provide instruction in basic subjects, arts, physical education and music.
- Hayden Peak follows the District dress standard which requires clean, neat, modest clothing. Students are expected to learn self- discipline. If serious problems arise, the student, teacher, parents, counselor, and principal work as a team to find the best solution for the student.
- The professional staff is competent and trained to give students an excellent education. Teachers are evaluated regularly with the aim of maintaining high quality instruction in every classroom.
- Hayden Peak has a resource program, called the Learning Lab, that includes a variety of special services for students with special learning needs.
- The school has an excellent Instructional Media Center which offers students a variety of materials for academic study and personal enjoyment. Students are encouraged to go to the center and use the materials for class assignments, independent study, and reading for pleasure.
- Nutritious, well-balanced lunches are served each day. The student price is $1.50.
- Hayden Peak is equipped with a computer lab staffed by a certified teacher where students learn basic computer skills and keyboarding techniques.
- Visitors are always welcome at Hayden Peak and asked to drop by the office upon arrival. The Hayden Peak staff is happy to assist visitors and anxious to help new students feel at home.
- Hayden Peak has a school choir called "The Hayden Peak Harmony" that allows students in grades 2-6 to experience the joy of vocal music and performing as a group.
- The school has an after school orchestra program for grades 4-6 for beginning and advanced students.
- Student Recognition: Students school wide can receive the Hawkeye award for excellence in scholarship and citizenship.
- Good Health and Physical Fitness are emphasized by participation in the Gold Medal Challenge. The activities focus on strength, flexibility and endurance where children may earn various awards by reaching specified goals.
- Technology: Our eMAC lab has 35 computers and is served by a Mac server. The project center is available to grades K-6. Computer programs include Kidpix, Apple Works, Garageband, iMovie, Kidspiration, Inspiration, Graph Club, Neighborhood Map Machine, and Timeliner. Basic keyboarding is taught using Keyboard Chater for grades 1-3, Keyboard Craze for grade 4, and KBK for grades 5-6. Student assessments include timed drills, research projects, and student produced multimedia presentations.
Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT)
The Core Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) are administered at the end of each school year to help assess how well students have mastered the standards and objectives set forth in the State of Utah Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science core curricula. Student achievement is reported as the percent of students reaching “proficient” by earning a Level 3 or Level 4 performance on the Core CRT.
