ABOUT PARK LANE ELEMENTARY

Park Lane Elementary, located in Sandy City in south Salt Lake Valley, serves students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Park Lane enjoys support from a suburban community interested in providing a healthy family environment through educational, cultural and recreational opportunities.

LogoPark Lane serves approximately 560 students from kindergarten through sixth grade.  The school, which opened in 1979, is an attractive, well-kept, modern building with self-contained classrooms suited to team teaching.

Park Lane operates on a traditional 180-day, nine-month calendar. School begins at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 3:05 p.m., except on Fridays, when school ends at 1:25 p.m. to allow teachers time for planning.

A hot lunch program is provided for students each day at a price of $1.50 per lunch. Reduced rate or free lunches are available to students in need.

All Park Lane students live within walking distance of the school. Parents are asked to notify the school if their child is going to be absent. The school calls the homes of students who are absent to make certain that they are safe.

  • Academics
  • The school maintains high standards of excellence, which encourage students to reach for their highest academic potential.
  • Park Lane students typically score high in state and district-wide assessments with over 91% of our students reading on or above grade level.
  • The curriculum meets or exceeds district or state standards. Teachers utilize Balanced Literacy strategies to teach reading and writing in all subject areas. Math is taught using a combination of Investigations as well as the Scott Foresman curriculum. Science and Social Studies curriculum are taught using both district and teacher-designed guides and materials using a hands-on approach. Curriculum is individualized and differentiated to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Teachers use a variety of strategies to meet individual learning needs and help students develop problem-solving skills. Park Lane classrooms are stimulating, upbeat and positive.
  • Our model is effective instruction, frequent evaluation and additional help for students who may fall behind.  We use the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy (DIBELS) school-wide to assess reading fluency, skills and needs.
  • Resource programs are provided for students who need special education help in guidance, speech, and academics.
  • A full-time literacy facilitator is available to assist students and teachers with basic literacy skills.
  • Computers are available for student use.  We have an up-to-date computer lab with many opportunities to integrate technology into the core curriculum.
  • Teachers work in teams so that all of the students in the grade benefit from each teacher's special skills in science, technology, art, music, physical education, etc.
  • Park Lane works with the District Gifted and Talented Specialists to provide opportunities for students with special abilities and interests.
  • Environment/Atmosphere
  • Park Lane believes every student is gifted in their own unique way. We are committed to supporting those gifts.
  • Park Lane students and staff practice “The Big Three”; Respect, Responsibility, Safety.
  • We respect ourselves and others.
  • We are responsible for what we say and do.
  • We work and play safely.
  • Students are taught responsible citizenship as teachers set reasonable limits, reinforce positive behavior, and employ programs to build student self-esteem.
  • Each student in grades 1-6 participates in the Presidential and National Physical Fitness Testing Program.  We promote healthy habits and lifestyles.
  • Park Lane students are expected to share responsibility for learning by attending school regularly and maintaining a positive attitude toward self, others and the school.
  • We believe it is important to celebrate success.  We incorporate many recognition programs including Panther Pride, Prestigious Panther, Community of Readers, Art Reflections, Presidential Physical Fitness as well as many classroom recognitions.
  • Faculty and Volunteers
  • We try and keep our teacher/pupil ratio as low as possible.  Most classes will range from 22 to 27 students.
  • Park Lane has a talented, experienced, and committed teaching staff. On an average, Park Lane’s teachers have 16 years experience. Our teachers participate in professional development every year to keep their skills sharp and up-to-date.
  • All staff members are formally evaluated on a regular basis for the purpose of improving performance.
  • School volunteers enrich the learning experiences of students. Volunteers are wanted and appreciated.
  • Visitors are always welcome at Park Lane and asked to check in at the office upon arrival.
  • Park Lane enjoys the services of an active PTA, School Community Group, and Volunteer Program.

We firmly believe that when the home and school work together in harmony, students are assured an excellent education.

Student Achievement

Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT)
The Core Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) are administered at the end of each school year to help assess how well students have mastered the standards and objectives set forth in the State of Utah Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science core curricula.   Student achievement is reported as the percent of students reaching “proficient” by earning a Level 3 or Level 4 performance on the Core CRT.
