ABOUT QUAIL HOLLOW ELEMENTARY
The mission of Quail Hollow Elementary is to prepare students for a quality life.
Together with students, parents, and community members, we are committed to the “quest for quality” in academic
skills, career awareness, and service learning. We are
dedicated to providing a safe school environment that
promotes the universal values of caring, responsibility,
citizenship,integrity, and respect.
Quail Hollow Elementary opened in 1981 and is located
on the east bench of the Wasatch Mountains in Sandy,
Utah. The Quail Hollow community is committed to the
“quest for quality” in creating a positive and challenging
learning environment.
- Quail Hollow Elementary serves approximately 630
students from kindergarten through sixth grade. The
traditional 9-month schedule provides for 180 school days.
- The school day begins at 8:40 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m.
except on Fridays when students are dismissed at 1:35
p.m. to allow for teacher planning time.
- Class sizes vary in different grade levels and as of
September 1, 2005 the teacher/pupil ratio in kindergarten
is 1 to 25 students; 1 to 24 students in first grade; 1 to 26
students in second grade; 1 to 25 students in third grade; 1
to 26 students in fourth grade; 1 to 27 students in fifth
grade; and 1 to 29 students in sixth grade.
Quail Hollow Elementary has a highly skilled professional
staff with specialized endorsements in such areas as
balanced literacy, math, science, gifted and talented
education, limited english proficiency instruction, and
special education.
- The professional teaching staff consists of 26
experienced educators, with half the teachers having over
20 years experience as career educators. Quail Hollow
Elementary has been selected as a student teaching
training site for Utah State University’s Elementary
Education Department for the past several years, due to the
wealth of experience and skilled instructional strategies of
our teachers.
- Our student population demographics provides for many
varied backgrounds with 7% ethnic diversity. As of
September 1, 2005, 3% of our students being monitored
for alternative language services and 10% of the students
qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.
- There are approximately 5% of our student population
receiving special services from our Resource Team which
includes the Resource teacher, Speech/language
Pathologist, and Guidance Specialist.
- Quail Hollow Elementary has a very active PTA and
School Community Council which meets monthly to
address school needs and sponsor various stimulating
programs within our community. Together we can build the
following character traits: developing empathy, honesty,
responsibility, building confidence, appreciating
differences, showing respect, acting with courage, and
speaking up by focusing on one each month. All students
in grades 1-6 use student planners daily to increase
organizational skills, maintain communication between
home and school and incorporate character education
across the curriculum.

- The purpose of the Utah Performance Assessment System for Students (U-PASS)
is to provide information about how students in Utah schools are doing relative
to the Utah State Core Curriculum and State requirements for school performance.
