ABOUT RIDGECREST ELEMENTARY
Ridgecrest Elementary is located in a stable, educationally oriented family community in Cottonwood Heights, a newly incorporated city in the northeast area of Salt Lake County. The students come from varied social and economic backgrounds with one common trait–a good foundation for learning and a strong motivation to do well.
Ridgecrest Elementary school boundaries include students from 6600 South to the 7600 Southand from 1300 East to 2000 East. The school is on a traditional calendar.
Ridgecrest serves 475 students grades kindergarten through six.
- The school day begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m. On the last day of the week, in those weeks containing three or more school days, school ends at 1:40 pm to allow planning time for teachers.
- The curriculum meets or exceeds all district and state standards. Instruction is differentiated to meet individual student needs.
- Research based comprehensive balanced literacy principles are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students are continuously evaluated to ensure adequate yearly progress.
- Highly qualified educators are skilled in best instructional practicies to support literacy and technology integration. All teachers participate in ongoing professional development.
- Ridgecrest houses the Accelerated Learning Program for Students (ALPS).
- Ridgecrest students are expected to meet district standards in dress and behavior. Students will not harm themselves, others, or the school.
- Positive behavior is recognized and rewarded. Students are honored for excellence throughout the year.
- Special education, speech, and guidance services are available.
- A strong core of volunteers supports student learning. Parents and members of the community are encouraged to come and work in the classroom, on the playground, and with enrichment projects
- A nutritious lunch is provided each day. The student price is $1.50 per lunch. Students are given a menu choice each day. The cafeteria maintains a Five Star rating.
- The building is air-conditioned and has wireless computer access, in addition to a new student computer lab. There is a beautiful central library with an atrium maintained by students with flowers and shrubs.
- The school is located next to Anzak Park where additional playground/activity facilities are available.
- The interior is updated and classrooms are enclosed. Students take pride in the buildings and grounds.
- Bus service is provided for all students who live north of 7000 South. Parents of ALPS students provide their own transportation.
- Visitors are invited to come to Ridgecrest to see for themselves how the faculty, students, parents, and community contribute to the school's success.
- Students are well rounded and achieve in art, music, drama and sports as well as in academics.
- The School Community Council helps advise and assist with the comprehensive school improvement plan, LandTrust Grant, safety issues, and staff professional development.
- The PTA maintains a high level of involvement including parent nights, field day activities, book fairs, reflections, Meet the Masters Art Program, and many other parent involvement activities. The parent support and volunteers are awesome!
