Terra
Linda Elementary, located in West Jordan City, serves
students living in the general area of 8030 South to
8600 South from 3075 West to 4000 West. School activities
and and programs are supported by strong families and
an active community.
The Terra Linda Elementary goal is to provide a climate
which promotes academic achievement, fosters responsible
citizenship, and builds pride in the school. Teachers
are also working to help Terra Linda students develop
a strong sense of self-worth.
- Terra Linda Elementary serves about 690 students from K-6.
- The school operates on a year-round schedule. Students are divided into three attendance groups or tracks. Each track is in school for about 45 days followed by 15 days of vacation. The entire school takes a common vacation during July.
- The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. except on Fridays, when school ends at 1:25 p.m. to allow teachers time for planning.
- The building, opened in 1972, features self-contained classrooms with a central media center.
- The curriculum meets or exceeds all District and state standards. Basic skills are emphasized and teachers use a wide variety of instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
- The pupil/teacher ratio is 1 to 22.0 in first grade, 1 to 22.6 in second grade, 1 to 23.3 in third grade, and 1 to 26.3 in grades four, five and six. The actual class sizes vary.
- All teachers have state certification. The average number of years of teaching experience is seven.
- Most Terra Linda teachers are involved in Jordan District's teacher professional development which rewards and encourages professional development.
- Staff members are formally evaluated on a regular basis.
- Several resource teachers, speech pathologists, and a guidance specialist are on staff to help students with special needs.
- Students are expected to comply with District dress, attendance, and discipline standards.
- Terra Linda has a full service kitchen where hot lunches are prepared for students each day at a price of $1.50 each. Breakfast is also served at a price of 70 cents for students.
- An active PTA and School Community Council give support for activities and provide input on important school issues. All parents are invited to participate.
- School volunteers contribute thousands of hours of service to the school each year.
- Visitors are always welcome at Terra Linda, but we do require that all visitors check in at the front office.
- Our teachers voluntarily participate in hours of inservice training to help stay current on teaching techniques and assure quality education to students.
- Technology is integrated into our classroom instruction. We offer an extensive e-Mac lab as an additional support.
- A schoolwide positive student behavior program enhances self-esteem and student learning.
Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT)
The Core Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) are administered at the end of each school year to help assess how well students have mastered the standards and objectives set forth in the State of Utah Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science core curricula. Student achievement is reported as the percent of students reaching “proficient” by earning a Level 3 or Level 4 performance on the Core CRT.
