ABOUT HILLCREST HIGH

Hillcrest High School is located approximately 12 miles south of Salt Lake City, in Jordan School District. The school's student body is drawn from a population which is economically, socially, and ethnically diverse. Hillcrest enjoys strong community interest and support from former graduates whose children are now attending our school and from area newcomers who are also contributing to the school's success.

HuskiesOur goal at Hillcrest is to help students prepare academically and socially for the future-a future where their ability to adapt to changing life styles and their ability to continue learning new skills will be vital. Our school offers a full, well-rounded curriculum which will help students prepare for job placement, for specialty or technical careers, or for college entrance. Learning opportunities are also extended through arts, sciences, languages, social studies, physical education, health, and high-tech courses. Social development is fostered through a full range of extracurricular activities, including forensics, drama, athletics, music, student clubs, etc.

- With an enrollment of over 1,766 students, Hillcrest has one of the largest public school student bodies in Utah.
- The school, which opened in 1962, has clean lines and modern architecture. The school is situated on a 38-acre campus.
- School is in session for 180 days a year on a traditional 9-month calendar with seven class periods per day.
- The teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 26.50, but actual class sizes vary according to the program.
- Our faculty is well qualified. Many hold advanced degrees and affiliate with local, state, and national professional organizations..
- All teachers and administrators are formally evaluated on a regular basis.
- Teachers work cooperatively in teams or departments to meet the individual needs of students.
- Hillcrest students are required to pass competency tests in basic skills and also meet all District and state attendance and credit requirements in order to graduate.
- The curriculum is demanding and designed to meet the needs of students at various ability levels. Class levels range from remedial to honors and advanced placement in all area.
- Technology training is available to students in all grades.
- Special services are available to students with learning disabilities and physical handicaps.
- Support is provided for students who do not speak English at home.
- Dress, attendance and discipline standards are vigorously maintained.
- Counselors are available to help students and parents who have problems or questions related to school.
- Bus service is provided for students who live two miles or more from school.
- A hot, nutritious lunch program is provided at a cost to students of $1.75 per lunch.
- An active School Community Group provides input to the administration, assists in solving problems, and makes recommendations on school issues.
- The Hillcrest High Booster Club is an active fundraising organization helping to meet the growing needs of our school.
- Visitors and community volunteers are always welcome at school and should check in at the main office upon arriving.
- Hillcrest is considered one of the top high schools in Utah in academic, activity, and athletic achievement.
- The tradition of excellence established at Hillcrest High will continue in years to come.

TEST SCORES

American College Test (ACT)
The ACT includes testing in the areas of Math, Science, Reading and English. Scale scores range from 1 (low) to 36 (high) for each of the four tests and for the Composite. The Composite score is the average of the four test scores, rounded to the nearest whole number.

Advanced Placement Test (AP)
Advanced Placement classes are college-level classes offered at the high school campus. Advanced Placement is a national program administered by the College Board. Many colleges and universities around the nation award credit based on scores from the AP Exams.
