Riverton High School is the newest high school in Jordan School District, and serves the southwest corner of Salt Lake County, including Riverton, Herriman, and Bluffdale. The Riverton High School campus sits on 52 acres and is a beautiful, modern facility that effectively meets the education needs of community, students, and staff.
The focus of Riverton High School
is summed up in the following mission statement:
At Riverton High School, we, the participants and
patrons, exemplify an environment of mutual respect
and cooperation, a commitment to excellence in all endeavors,
and the encouragement of positive character traits.
- Our school serves over 2,800 students, grades 10-12, and the student population is expected to continue growing rapidly.
- Teacher/pupil ratio is budgeted at 27.3 students per teacher, with actual class size varying among classes.
- RHS is on a traditional nine-month calendar, but it is on a block schedule in which students have eight classes. They have four classes every other day for approximately 87 minutes each.
- Riverton High School offers a broad curriculum. In addition to core classes, they offer a wide variety of electives.
- Students must earn 27 credits and pass basic skills tests to graduate.
- All teachers and administrators are evaluated regularly.
- The counseling department has a full-time school psychologist, in addition to six regular counselors and a vocational education specialist.
- There are many Honors and Advanced Placement an Concurrent Enrollment courses available.
- Special services are available to students with learning disabilities.
- Technology training is available to all students, and is encouraged in most subjects, in addition to actual technology classes.
- A full extracurricular program is in place at RHS, including sports, forensics, drama, dance, art, clubs, student government, etc.
- RHS has an active and supportive PTSA as well as a community group that meets monthly.
- Bus service is available to students who live more that two miles from the school.
- A hot lunch program is available for students for $1.75 per day.
- Adult visitors are welcome, but must check in at the main office upon arrival. Students from other schools are not permitted during school hours except under special circumstances.
- Our science program has applied for and received large grants from private corporations like INTEL. We have had students receive monetary awards at the International Science Fair.
- Our technology classes are among the best in the state.
- Many of our students earn considerable college credit through the AP program. Our Art 2D Design, Drawing, English Literature, Music Theory, Statistics, and Photography classes all had pass rates of 70% or higher.
- Our choral and instrumental programs are excellent.
- Our athletic teams are steadily improving, and have won several regional championships and have had good showings in state competition.
- Our graduation rate is above 90%.
- The class of 2007 received over $4,000,000 in scholarship offers.
American College Test (ACT)
The ACT includes testing in the areas of Math, Science,
Reading and English. Scale scores range from 1 (low)
to 36 (high) for each of the four tests and for the
Composite. The Composite score is the average of the
four test scores, rounded to the nearest whole number.

Advanced
Placement Test (AP)
Advanced Placement classes are college-level classes
offered at the high school campus. Advanced Placement
is a national program administered by the College
Board. Many colleges and universities around the nation
award credit based on scores from the AP Exams.

Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT)
The Core Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) are administered at the end of each school year to help assess how well students have mastered the standards and objectives set forth in the State of Utah Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science core curricula. Student achievement is reported as the percent of students reaching “proficient” by earning a Level 3 or Level 4 performance on the Core CRT.

Utah Basic Skills Competency Test (UBSCT)
The Utah Basic Skills Competency Test is a state-legislated high school competency test. Students who pass the UBSCT will have a designation indicating such on their high school diploma. The first administration of the UBSCT is February during the students’ 10th grade year. A proficiency score of 3 or 4 is required to pass each section. Students who did not pass all three sections (Math, Reading, and Writing) will be provided with four additional opportunities in which to pass the three parts of the UBSCT.
